IATBR 2024 Workshop: EU Living Labs for Co-designing Innovative Transport and Logistics Solutions to Address Climate Change

Date: 16 July 2024
Time: 10:30 – 12:15 CET
Location: Vienna, Austria

On July 16, 2024, the IATBR 2024 workshop focused on the pivotal role of “Living Labs” in addressing climate change through innovative transportation and logistics solutions within the European Union. The session, titled “EU Living Labs for Co-designing Innovative Transport and Logistics Solutions to Address Climate Change: Insights from 8 EU-Funded Projects,” was a key event for industry professionals, researchers, and policymakers.

Workshop Overview:

The workshop showcased the concept of Living Labs as real-world testbeds for co-designing, evaluating, and facilitating the adoption of cutting-edge solutions in the transport and logistics sectors. These labs are essential in driving forward sustainable practices and mitigating climate change impacts.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Mobility: Participants explored Living Labs dedicated to Public Transport solutions, integrating multimodal hubs, White label Mobility as a Service (MaaS), hyperlocal on-demand services, Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM), crowding/congestion monitoring, and real-time information systems with incentivization strategies.
  • Freight and Logistics: The session featured experimental projects and pilot initiatives including micro-consolidation centers, Logistics-as-a-Service models, mobile depots, cargo hitching, and the use of innovative vehicles for last-mile delivery such as droids.

Attendees gained insights into the practical applications of these sustainable solutions, their impact on user behavior, and the collaborative processes involved in refining and promoting stakeholder adoption.
