Smart ways to Antwerp revamps website

From now on, anyone looking for information on the Smart ways to Antwerp website will find it much faster, thanks to the redesigned home page with search bar. Popular information is highlighted, and interviews and interesting figures are shown much more prominently.

Quick filters

But that is not the biggest change to Smart ways to Antwerp. The route planner and mobility map have now been merged into one application, and all information has been broken down into mobility topics.

For example, you can now use eight quick filters to choose whether you want information and routes related to walking, cycling, public transport, cars, shared mobility, Park and Rides or accessibility. Each filter shows a different map with more context. For example, with the filter ‘walking’ all the benches and drinking fountains and the surface of the walking paths are displayed.

With each filter, you can also choose to visualise even more transport options and/or layers on the map. This includes maximum use of real-time data when available. Among other things, the map now shows the status of escalators and lifts under the Scheldt River, the occupancy of Park and Ride schemes, the status of bridges and locks, and more. For most layers, all relevant information such as rates, facilities and accessibility have also been included.

Where possible, you will see information for all of Flanders (e.g. carpool car parks) and sometimes you will see data for the Benelux (e.g. train stations). In hiking and biking, you can see both functional and recreational networks.

Accessibility

An ‘accessibility’ filter has also been added, with a high-contrast base map supplemented with useful information such as blind guiding lines, traffic-light audio signals, accessible parking and accessible restrooms.

Also for other sites

Smart ways to Antwerp is now also providing its application for free as a widget for all city and external websites that want to share accessibility information about their location.

A first example is currently already live at https://icapps.com/contact and at https://icapps.com/contact. The tutorial to integrate the widget can be found here.

The Smart ways to Antwerp app will also switch to the updated route planner by the autumn.
